Chehni Kothi

Chehni Kothi, located near Jibhi in the Banjar Valley of Himachal Pradesh, is a stunning example of traditional Kath-Kuni architecture and one of the tallest free-standing structures in the Western Himalayas. Built in the 17th century by the local rulers of Chehni village, this impressive tower was originally a defensive fort and royal residence. Rising about 45 meters high, it is constructed entirely with stone and wood — without any cement or mortar — showcasing ancient engineering that is both earthquake-resistant and eco-friendly. Inside the complex lies a revered temple dedicated to Shringa Rishi, a local deity worshipped by villagers across the Tirthan Valley. Reaching Chehni Kothi involves a short but scenic trek through pine forests and traditional Himachali villages, offering breathtaking views and a deep connection with nature and heritage. A visit here is not just about architecture or history — it’s a step into the timeless soul of the Himalayas.
